About the event
The Jews of Iraq are one of the oldest Jewish communities worldwide, with a history spanning over a millenia.
WHEN: Jan 6, 20:00
WHERE: Kerem House
Join us as we watch "The Dove Flyer", a film based on the famous book by acclaimed Iraqi author Eli Amir, and get a glimpse into the lives of the Iraqi Jews during the 1950s. This touching coming-of-age film follows a young Jewish teenager in Baghdad at the time of the controversial and complicated process of the Iraqi Jews’ immigration to Israel.
Before the screening we'll be serving up fresh Sabih, a traditional Iraqi Jewish pita sandwich consisting of chopped salad, fried eggplant, amba (pickled mango chutney), and boiled egg (can be left out if you're vegan).
About the host:
Melanie is the granddaughter of two Iraqi Jewish refugees, and is passionate about sharing Iraqi Jewish history, culture, music, and food with the Kerem House.
About the Kerem House:
Kerem House is the first of its kind community center focused on post Aliya life for young professionals in the big city through encouraging the community to host empowering events by facilitating easy access to space.
